Security Labs SLD251 4 Channel Security DVR Review
Security Labs have created the SLD251 digital video recorder; the system has the capacity to accommodate between one and four surveillance cameras. For storing the video from your surveillance cameras the security DVR has an 80GB hard disk that you can change if you decide you need more storage space. 80 gigabytes may very well prove to be adequate as the maximum recording rate for the SLD251 is 30 frames per second.
The SLD251 can display images at a maximum resolution of 720*480 and has a maximum playback rate of 120 FPS. This Security Labs DVR uses MJPEG video compression and you can select one of three different levels of video compression. When video is recorded at its highest level of video compression, image quality improves but more storage space is required. The lower video compression settings decreases the quality of video recorded by the system and requires less storage space.
Video quality increases dramatically when the DVR is set to record with one camera at a time as opposed to four. You can set the DVR to record continuously or set it to record only at times when motion is detected. Recording by the DVR can also activated by timer and you can specify a time when each camera attached to it will start and stop recording. Security Labs have included four alarm inputs to the SLD251, when an alarm is triggered the system will activate recording.
When you are monitoring the surveillance cameras attached to the DVR you can view one camera at a time full screen. Alternatively you can put the DVR into quad mode and this enables you monitor the four up to four surveillance cameras attached to the system on one monitor. As the DVR has Triplex capabilities recording is not interrupted while you use it to playback video footage. The back of the Security Labs DVR has an Ethernet port for connecting the DVR to Broadband so you can monitor and control the system from the Web.
