The Clover DVR-800 has eight channels to accommodate your security cameras and as the overall frame rate for the system is high, recording is smooth. The system is capable of recording video at 240 frames per second, when you watch TV the image is displayed at around 30 frames per second. 30 frames per second is considered smooth so when 8 cameras are attached to the Clover-800 video does not become choppy. The downside with this DVR is that it only has an eighty gigabyte hard drive, once it becomes full it begins overwriting the oldest recorded surveillance camera footage.

If you set all of the cameras attached to the DVR to record twenty four hours a day its hard drive fills up in about a week. Granted the Clover-800 comes with a CD writer so you can easily make copies of any essential footage but it would have been nice to see a larger hard drive. To compensate for this the hard disk for the clover is interchangeable so you can swap it for a larger one if needed. Another way to cut down on hard drive space usage is to set the DVR to record at a lower frame rate for specific cameras.

To monitor the activity picked up by the Clover DVR-800 it includes both a VGA output and an RCA output so you can connect it to a monitor or television. The DVR is network compatible and can be connected to PSTN, ISDN, LAN and TCP/IP networks. Networking the DVR enables authorised users to control it and its attached cameras from any location where Internet Explorer is available. This feature is also useful for sharing images that have been captured by the surveillance system between the personnel who operate it.

Your security cameras are connected to the DVR through one of its BNC ports and the system can record at a maximum resolution of 720*480 in NTSC. When recording in PAL the picture resolution is slightly higher at 720*572. The Clover DVR-800 uses the MPEG-4 video compression format and can be used to control the position of PTZ cameras. The DVR can be connected to an external alarm system, recording is triggered by numerous means.

The security DVR can be set to record if an alarm is triggered, by scheduling a time or by the use of motion detection. If a specific event is recorded that you want to review you can search for it by entering the time the event occurred.
