The CDR8050 is an eight-channel security DVR, it uses MPEG4 video compression and to cut down on installation hassles it has a 320GB hard drive fitted. You have the option to add 1.5TB of storage space to the system; it is fitted with 3 hard drive bays. At 240 frames per second the frame rate is just high enough to ensure that each camera attached to the security DVR records video smoothly. When recording in NTSC the highest image resolution for the DVR is 720*480, in PAL the DVR can record at 720*576.

Hard disks are not the only media the system can use to store video footage; the DVR also has a DVD burner built in. As well as recording video the DVR is capable of recording audio; the downside is that the DVR has four-channel audio as opposed to eight. The DVR can be integrated into existing alarm systems if you have the expertise, the system is fitted with eight alarm inputs and four alarm relay outputs.

Recording by the DVR is activated by either alarm activation or when the system detects motion on your attached surveillance cameras. You can also record with the system constantly or set a schedule to record at specific times. For playback you can connect the CDR0850 to either a TV or a monitor, the back of the system has an S-Video output and a VGA output. You can view multiple security cameras on your TV or monitor with the DVR without having to stop recording.

You can network the DVR with its Ethernet port so it’s suitable to be plugged into most broadband connections or LAN’s. Networking the DVR enables you to control it remotely through Internet Explorer and this can also be used to share video recorded by the system. You can control your cameras pan and tilt functions with the remote control that comes with the DVR and the system also comes with a mouse.
